Subject: HELP IP: Logged
Message: Anybody know why my Dakota makes a grinding and squeeking sound from the engine from the time I start it until it warms up. It is a 99 v6 slt club cab>

Message: Assuming oil pressure is ok, got to be up front. Belt, waterpump, belt tentioner. Alternator, power steering pump or air condition pump. Can be any or even 2 of these. You need to get under there while it's doing it with a dowl rod to your ear moving it from one to another(BE CAREFULL).

a big screw driver will also work well
the tesioner pully and there is also another
idler pully just about right in the middle
both around $25 ea unles you get the entire
tensioner than around $70

Message: Check the belt tensioner, the after market tensioners are much better built than the OEM. Also inspect the clutch on your A/C unit. That might be causing the noise.
If it ain't broke, your not trying!
