Message: I have a 02' Dakota v8 and there has been problems with the tranny ever since the 1st day I brought it home. I have a terrible time gettting it into 2nd and 3rd gear. Most of the time it wont stay in gear when going in reverse. Also sometimes i will be driving down the road and it just pops out of gear (mostly in 3rd.) People tell me there is too much power to the truck for the tranny that's in it. Then why would they use that tranny. I am about ready to throw the truck off a cliff. There is only 5k miles on the truck and there is more problems then just the tranny. Water leaks through the air ducts and rear driver side window and the steering clunks when you make right turns. Im thinking my truck was built on a monday or friday.

Message: I have a '97 Dakota that had about 9k miles on it when the front end started making noise in the turns and my tires started wearing. I took it into the local dealer and he said it was my fault the tires were wearing because I had not rotated them. Took it into a reliable tire store, they told me the ball joints were shot (a defect in workmanship from Dodge that they konw about). Dealer was still not any help. Got the number for Chrysler CEO from the internet. Called his office and talked to his seretary. Dodge paid for new ball joints, tires and alinment. Service manager that wouldn't do anything got fired and dealership manager that also was no help was demoted and transfered. Dealership got very helpful after that. Still don't really trust them though.

Message: Well......my 03 quad cab V6 is still in the shop! 2 Weeks now to replace the tranny. The wonderful dealership did not order all the parts to replace it ahead of time so now it just sits and waits. I even delayed the work being done for a week because i figured this would happen. So i will let you all know how the truck is after i get it back with a whole new tranny. If it is not any better the lemon law comes into effect. It is the third time having it fxed and it has been out of service for more than 20 days. Doesn't DODGE build wonderful things? I think Amanda was right........built on a Monday or Friday........but i think all of the dakotas are built on Monday's and Fridays!!!!!!

Message: I have a 1996 that sat for a year with a blown motor I put a new motor in that runs fine but the automatic transmission will only shift manually and of course I can't go into overdrive. It seems to shift fine manually with no slipping.
Anyone else ever run into this? I've been told it's the computer but it's hard to find one??? Don't they make after market ones? I'd even buy one from Chrysler if that's the only way.

Message: I don't know how everyone here drives their truck, but one way to avoid destroying the tranny is not to shift out of overdrive going 70 miles per hour down the interstate, it will surely kill it, and, you have to change the fluid at least once a year. Look my truck has 169,000 miles on it and it still drives like new. They aren't meant to be raced either.

Message: I have a 2000 v-6 dakota, 73,000mi. For lst 2 weeks when I go from park to drive it doesn't always catch. If I move the shifter back and forth a bit it catches and goes. Don't have any more trouble after that even starting from red light etc. Any ideas?? transmission mechanic of course wants to pull whole thing out and find problem- says could be start of major problem- could I expect anything else!!

Message: I had my 2002 Dakota parked on a slight incline. It was running (in park) to cool the inside. I came out of the house to find it at the bottom of the hill slammed into a tree. Ten days earlier, the dealership had replaced the neutral safety switch. Anyone else had problems with it popping out of gear?
