Subject: Low End Loss, HELP! IP: Logged
Message: Mods are a live and learn situation. I have a 00' 3.9 4X4. I had a set of 93' dak exhaust manifolds ceramic coated($135) and new y- pipe fabricated and installed. The new down pipes are 2 1/4", to the 2.5 pipe. Along with a magnaflow muffler. Sounds throaty, love the sound, hate the off the line loss in power. Great improve ment when over 2000 rpm. How can I get my low end back? Or do I have to go back to stock down pipes? Will underdrive pulley help?
Thanks,
Ernie J.

Message: Yeah, and what is your TB bored at?
If it doesn't fit, you're using the wrong hammer!

Message: Running stock tires 235/75 R15 and gears. I think they are 3.55.Cat is original. Was removed, inspected and reinstalled with new O2 sensors. The TB is the Hughes stage 1 for the V6, 469 CFM at 1.5" Hg pressure drop. Forgot to mention it is an automatic transmission.

Message: you may want to consider changing gears to 3.92:1 or 4.10:1.
i also wanted to know if your intake was modified in some way? posibly shorter runners? that would compound the problem on the low end.

Message: Intake manifold is stock. No mods there. I take it no chance getting it back without changing gears. How about one of those inserts from car chemistry?

Message: well, you could try replacing your 2.5" exhaust with 2.25"? or try another TB.

Message: Yup, TB could be too large for bottom end. Try a Fastman 46 mm. It works fantastic.

Message: the hughes stage 1 is a 50mm to big this alone
will cause a low end loss
drop a set of 1.7 rockers in there it will help
and get a 48mm F&B or 46mm fastman the bores
in the intake are 48mm the step from the 50
causes low end flow probs
I see so many people do this you must improve
the intake side before freeing up the exhaust
or you will lose low end the right tb and 1.7's
than work with the exhaust
you have 2 things against you here now
