Message: It's time. Theoretically, I believe they say you can go double the time, but I still do every 3,000.

Message: I use Amsoil 10W30 in my truck, and I usually change my oil at 5,000 miles, but I also use Amsoils own oil filter.
I used to have a 1995 Chevy Cavalier that went 112,000 miles and I used Amsoil in that as well, same thing, changed the oil every 5,000, used Amsoils oil filter.
I use Amsoil in my wifes 2000 Chevy Impalla, again, 10W30 and oil filter made by Amsoil. Before that, she had a 95 Dodge Caravan that went 99,120 miles before we traded it in. Never had any problems going the 5,000 mile change.
Mobil is good oil as well....I just personally happen to know an Amsoil Dealer and he sells it to me at cost plus shipping. Or if he is in Chicago for the day he stops by his warehouse and picks up, he don't even charge me shipping then.
Are you saving anything by changing your oil at 5,000 miles? Not really...you are still spending a small fortune on synthetic oil anyway...
Just remember this though...once you have started to use synthetic motor oil, you can never switch back to regular motor oil, like Castrol or if you prefer Quaker State/Penzoil....something to do with the seals and gaskets leaking...or so I have been told by many mechanics.

Message: What is the difference between regular and synthetic? I use quakerstate, that is what has been put in my truck for 114K miles.

Message: Yes, Quaker State is a wax based oil, although there really isn't that much wax to even tell the difference....
Something else you might want to know is that Penzoil and Quaker State are the same company. Although I read in the newspaper a couple of weeks ago that Shell was planning to purchase Penzoil/QS.

Message: I use Valvoline oil religously. I really like it and have never had a problem with it. I also use either an A/C Delco or Fram Tough Guard filter and both of those filters seems to work fine. I have read the reports about how Frams aren't the best filters, but when I can't get an AC, I hit the Fram and don't have any problems.
