Subject: What all do i need for the V8 swap? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 98 dakota and i am going to be putting a 93 5.2L out of a Jeep Grand Cherokee. I am wondering if im going to need a 98 ECU and wiring harness in order for my gauges to work. Do i have to worry about mounts? Is there anything else i need to think about? Will my auto tranny hold up? (it was just rebuilt)

Message: tranny should hold up but you might wanna have a shift kit put in cause of the extra torque... when dropping the V8 in you will need the engine harness, ECM, Throttle cable (maybe-maybe not), mounts that should be it.... your gauges and all will work cause the only thing thats different on the wiring is that there is only 2 more plugs for the injectors in the engine harness...

Message: Make a plate to block off egr and add 2 wires
for the #7 and #8 injector and use the V8 comp
but you will have to get the vin flashed in
or all it will do is start and shut down every
time you try it

I am getting the engine harness and ECU so im guessing i dont need to add the extra 2 wires. But about flashing the VIN in, im not quite sure what you mean. I'm getting a 98 5.2L ECU will that not work? My truck is a 98 and I would think the motor wouldnt make a difference. Let me know what i need to do because im a little confused.
thanks

Message: Its not the motor that makes the difference; its the PCM (ECU) with a vin# that doesn't match the truck's #. You need to take the PCM to a Mopar dealer to have your truck's vin# flashed into it.
