Message: I have needed to replace the plenum gasket for a while now. Got the kit fron hughes as well as a new Tstat. I have never done any work this complicated before. I got a shop manual on cd, need to borrow some torque wrenches and I'm ready to go. Any tips or any special details would be appreciated. Any troublesome areas to look out for? I have found a couple of online tutorials that should help. I have been visiting this site for the last 5 years. Have yet to register, Sorry. Thanks for any help or comments. 2000 V6 5sp .

Message: Before removing your intake manifold, you might want to replace the small coolant hose between the water pump and the intake manifold. Get a FEL-PRO int. manifold gasket set. It should come with a tube of gasket glue too. Clean your throttle body, round off any sharp corners in the manifold.
Good luck.

Message: Drain down the coolent. Water will still drain into the engine. Remove the oil, then plan on an oil change and filter after a few miles to be sure.
Remove the fuel pump relay so you don't do what I did.
You'll need a special tool to undo the gas line.
While it's apart, remove the cover and check the camshaft.
Make a list of what goes where. Like mom said, Leftovers are bad.
Have fun!

Message: I had a question maybe pertaining to this issue. I seem to have alot of oil residue on the inside of my intake. A intalled a bored out throttle body and it was spotless, about 2 weeks or so later right under the butterflys its completely black. Pulled the air intake sensor and reeked of burnt oil. Would this be the plemum gasket or something else? Thanks

Message: yzeffer,
I would check into it asap. I do believe you have a blown intake gasket. Does your truck use any oil between changes?

Message: The oil film is unimportant. It is sucked in from your valve cover, insted of being vented into the atmosphire, like your dad's Buick.
