 Subject: 3.9 Exhaust Options

I want to change out the exhaust on my 3.9 Dakota, and I want to put dual-exhaust mainly for the looks and sound, not so much as the HP gains, but I do like more power for my weak V6.
I want a deep, v8 sound to my truck. Nothing too loud when cruising. I plan to route the dual exhaust through a roll pan. What should I go with? I would kind of like an x-pipe put in if I can for power, but I want sound over power.

Flowmaster 40 series was good when I had a v6 in it. It's the loudest out there except for glasspacks. Sounded like a v8 below 3k rpms, sounded like a beefed up honda over 4k rpms.
I've heard good things about dynomax and flowmaster 40 quiet series (I forgot the real name)

I just ordered a pace setter preditor dual to try
with shipping $289 2 1/4 tail with polished 3" tips
I bought the 2 3/4 dynomax system and I dislike it
so much its comming off my truck should have
stayed with the 11748 and factory tail the 2 3/4
was to big loud and loss of backpressure caused
a low end loss

i believe you meant the 17748 dynomax muffler there Larry.... pyro.. thats what i have the 17748 dynomax muffler its basicly a direct fit but need to do a little cutting on the pipe coming off the cat.... its got a nice tone at idle sounds like a V8.... while driving its not overly loud its actually moderate (can hear yourself think kinda quiet) but still hear the deep tone it produces... now dynomax has the 17674 that is a center in dual out if ya wanna run the duals.... should sound about the same cause its the same line of muffler the 17748 falls under.... here check this site...

I see. Mine is doesn't seem to run all that well for some reason, I am trying to open it up. It kind of acts choked down, when I hit the gas its really slow to accelerate, but its fine once its on up there. Only mods are cold air, and TB spacer.
I think I may go with the Gibson exhaust, I dunno

The truck only has 17k miles on it. I doubt that its plugged already.

i dunno if you've found your problem yet, but check for a reversed cat or muffler. had that problem on a 2000 gmc savanna. ended up kinda funny. wish i could remember what kind of exhaust ended up on that. the muffler shop ended up puttin a complete performance exhuast on it. when passing people on the highway it would make a real nice sound. kinda ripped throu the air. it used 3 sets of cats and 2 mufflers in 4 years.

the insane part is that it went throu the original tranny, a rebuild and survived on a new one. blew the orignial motor (one of the rods right out throu the oil pan) and got sold on it's second. just barely under 300k km's. sure glad it was a work truck and i didn't have to pay for it... lol

Lol awesome, yeah mine is still under waranty, I wish I could blow up my 3.9 and tell them to put a 5.9 back in :)
