Subject: tranny problems? IP: Logged
Message: Does anyone have any idea what would cause a 2002 3.9L dakota not to shift from 1st to 2nd? When i get on it hard it wont shift from 1st to 2nd. It just revs really high then hits the rev limiter. Also when shifting from 2nd to 3rd it revs high and shifts hard. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. Thanks

Message: if you go easy on the throttle does it shift OK?
if the answer is yes sounds like the TV cable is out of adjustment

Message: the cable that comes up from the trans to the TB is the TV cable,it adjusts on the TB end, back it off very little and try it for shifting, you may have to do this a few times to get it right
good luck

Message: same thing happned to my 99. turns out it isnt the cable or filter. Problem was the govoner pressure selonid in the trans. easy fix. Drop the pan and remove the bracket that holds both govoner and speed selonids. plug in new and ur good to roll

Message: I had the same problem with my 2000 but it was between 2nd and 3rd. Turned out it was my neoprene seals had gone out. I had it resealed with steel rings (or whatever it was) and a shift kit while it was out. Solved my problems. Hope it helps

Message: If you're willing to do some searchin, there is a catalog from sonnax that addresses some problems with chrysler transmissions. If you can't figure it out with what was mentioned eariler and don't want to spend the money at a shop, check out the catalog. Its free from sonnax.com According to the info from the catalog, sometimes it is worn parts like what Brad mentions as neoprene seals. Looks like all you do is drop the pan and take out 10-15 screws holding up the valve body and simply exchange old parts for new parts. The entire kit is under $150 and individuals are $10-$40. Good luck, the tranny isn't that diffucult to understand once you take a stab at it. Now rebuilding, ?, that may be another story.
