Subject: Reman. Parts IP: Logged
Message: Simply a FYI. Installed a remanufactured distributor in my truck. Bought it from Napa. Had to file the lower part of the housing. It wouldn't fit or sit properly on the manifold/crankcase. Thought I had the wrong part. :-( Hope the O-ring does what it was intended for.

Message: The only way and I do mean the ONLY way I will use a remanufactured part is if a new part is no longer available period. There is no consistency in these parts. They only replace what they absolutely have to in order to get it past there 30 day(as a rule) guarentee.

Message: Well, lets hope it works. Waiting for someone to be around so I can time the engine. At least the truck starts now.

Message: Sorry Matt. Wasn't trying to upset you. I had my own shop for many years and that remanufactured stuff cost me plenty in free work redoing a job. sometimes redoing more then once. Only way I would install remanufactured was with a signed reciept from the owner baring full responsible. Keep in mind, there are those that fet away with it just fine.

Message: Pep Boys has Bosch Alternators with a money back guarantee. I discovered I blew the main fuse and didn't need the alternator, and they took it back. Didn't matter it had been hooked up and run.
Sometimes things work out good.

Message: I opt for new when possible. I replaced the MAF in my wife's old mustang with remanufacturered as it was the only part immediately available. Failed about 16 months later. Original lasted 8 years.
30 day warranty is not much worse than the new parts at autozone. They carry usually 3 month warranty. That's why I pretty much exclusively switched (will use autozone in a tough bind) to using advance. Their parts come with a 1 year warranty. Occasionally I'll hit pepboys, oreillys or napa. Depends on the part I am after.

Message: Shatto.... The problem was not warranty. The problem was COST OF REDOING THE JOB. New or rebuilt. nobody pays you to reinstall a replaced part. New parts also can be defective but it is so rare compared to rebuilds. Keep in mind though. The warranty on rebuilt parts is short and it is very common for them to make it just beyond that short period.

Message: Sorry, guys, I'm showing my age.
Back in the Dinosaur days 'factory rebuilt' meant it was back to factory specifications, as in like new.
