Message: I have a 2002 Dodge Dakota Sport, 3.9V6. What is the difference between a V6 Magnum, and just a V6? There is nothing on the truck which states it is a magnum, but on the air breather cover it says Magnum. The manual doesn't seem to tell me anything! Just curious!!

Maybe they just think it sounds good.
You'll probibly find a trademark domewhere. Sort of why Dodge doesn't have Vortec or Power Stroke (hey, do you think that is why so many F-150's are sold...Power Stroke? Naaah, we couldn't be that shallow, could we?) or Force engines. Magnum, get it?
This is what you get at quarter to two. Nite.

Message: I won't argue with that! Like I said though, on the air breather container, it does state Magnum. Thanks for the reply!

Message: i could be wrong but i think this is how it goes:
back about '92 dodge went from what was known as the "LA" design motors(3.9, 5.2, 5.9) with carbs to the "Magnum" design with fuel injection, roller lifters and better flowing heads. since then they are all called "Magnum".
i think the basic engine blocks are pretty much the same. they experts may be able to elaborate.

Message: Thanks for the reply. Mine is fuel injected, and it has the fuel rails. It's no big deal, I was just curious!

Message: AJC,
Now all you have to do is go 500,000 miles like mine did. Magnum miles.
