The instructions for the Crower rockers are very clear but for the Harland Sharp Rockers I'm still unsure of the install. Do you put #1 on TDC and bolt them all in or each cylinder on TDC and bolt each rocker in separately like the crowers. What is the V6 mark or where is it that Larry says to put on 0 and then bolt in the rockers. Could someone list each step of the procedure like they did for the Crowers, for us mechanically challenged. Thanks.

Hey guys, just letting you know i finished this install earlier today. The only real difference I noticed was that the exhaust tone was lower when I started up the truck. Somehow I lucked out and when I shut the truck off and took off the valve covers, it was at just the right spot because only one of the valve's was open, and only by about 3 or 4 mm. I didn't have to turn the engine at all when installing the rockers. Easy easy install, would have finished in about an hour but I had the valve covers painted and pulled out the pushrods to clean them. When I pulled out the pushrods though, one of them on the drivers side of the truck had a hairline fracture in it so I had to scramble around and try to find replacement pushrods on a sunday... (luckily summit racing had them and they're only about 4 miles down the road.) Has anyone ever seen a pushrod with a crack in it, or am I just really lucky to catch a possibly big problem before it happened?

With Wabbit season over I'm doing a few more mods. I ordered the Harland Sharp rockers from Southeast $334 with shipping. Will install when they arrive. I'm in the process of cleaning the sludge from the engine using the auto-rx engine flush. Might take a while since I only use the truck for wrabbit hunting. Will go to Amsoil once done. Truck's a 95 with 163,000, I know why waste money on an old truck? Cause I can and I'm having fun.

Mods to date: headers, 48mmTB, fuel injectors, K&N Air, Blaster coil and ignition, muffler, spark plugs, dist. cap, rotor, 180 therm. Most of the good stuff Larry recommends.

I'm not a mechanic, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn once. Plus this board has given me the info to try stuff I normally wouldn't have tried.

Never sean a cracked one but I have bent a few in
the V6 also blew a crower 1 day you cant rev the
standerd kit over 5500 rpm or they jump over the
valve

harlands are rated for 8000 rpm so no wories there

Yes your truck will be a little louder there is
more air flowing thru

The harlands checking with a dial indicater are
actualy 1.71 to 1 over the crowers more lift
a .461 .462 with the harlands crower .459

Heres how they stack up they add the lift and increase the duration

lift from .432 to .461 .462
duration @ .005
stock 250/264
1.7's 254/268

on a stock motor nothing else done 15hp at the
wheels with a bigger body they add 18hp on a motor
that has the intake port matched ported heads
and headers they will hit a 20hp gain with an
upgraded comp

give them about 200 miles to tune in and you will
be able to notice the diff from 1800 rpm on up to
redline

The 1.7's are one of the best mods out there and
the harlands are a true bolt in and were designed
specificly for the mag engine the crowers are
actualy designed for the V10

just go to hughesengines.com the 6.905 hardened
pushrods are only $4.00 each $48 for a set and
never worrie about breaking them again

Torque on dyno with the 1.7's 20 to 30 foot pounds
on the ported motor we gained 31 so its a very
nice gain for the money gain this is rear wheel
real world gains

The throttle body and 1.7's is a must for anyone
looking for more power

Its posible to bring the V6 upto 175 rear wheel
hp with all the bolt ons a comp upgrade and just
removing the bottle neck in the intake by doing a port gasket match.

Now 1 thing here all sensors must be upto snuff
to get these gains mainly map, engine temp, IAT
and most of all the o2 it needs to read the
increased air flow and add more fuel to get
the gains that is why I recomend to anyone
looking for a excellent performing truck to invest
the money in a scanner AutoXray is the best for
the money obd1 $150 obd2 $200

Thanks Larry.

That's what I needed to know.
I already got the Autoxray due to your recommendation.
Is there somewhere that lists the normal values for the Autoxray readings?

zzark, I'm not sure of the exact pushrod part # but when I called them, they said they didn't carry any for the dakota so I searched on their website and came up with a universal one with the right thickness and length and just ordered those and told them that they would fit the dakotas. They were Trick Flow Chromemoly Universal Pushrods. 5/16" by 6.900"

WOW, super easy installation. Harland Sharp has got it down pat. The hardest thing to do was move all the wires and crap out of the way to get the valve covers off! Don't need the guide plates either! Now to let the computer adjust and see how things work out. I installed a Fastman 46 mm TB at the same time so I will have to run it for awhile to re-learn. Tooo Easy.
