Message: im getting really confused as to how ur suppose to install these. arent u suppose to turn the bolt until theres no play in the push rod and then tighten it down with a half turn then tighten down the screw in the center of the bolt?
i know it has to be done when both valves are closed

Message: yeah with the valves closed and turn the nut untill there is no play in the pushrod then go 1/4 to 1/2 a turn and tighten the center screw locking the nut into position for every rocker... then place covers back on and fire it up allowing the engine to run for a mins so lifters fill back up and all noise goes away... if the lifters are still tapping, go back in and re-adjust the rockers....
now i myself have made a cover to slip on over the rockers so i can adjust the rockers as the motor is runnin so oil doesnt go flying all over the place..

Message: about the play in the pushrods how do u tell if there's play? do u roll the pushrod until it doesnt move or lift it up and down until it stops moving. it doesnt seem very accurate at all because some people have stronger a grip than others

Message: Crower Rocker Arm Installation:
* Disconnect coil wire. Remove air cleaner and inlet hose. Clear a path to remove the valve covers
* Remove spark plug wires and valve cover hold down bolts.
* Remove valve covers. Clean them and set them aside.
* Remove stock rockers, leaving pushrods in place. Dont let pushrods drop down into engine.
* Install Crower studs (#88416 for V6, V8, V10 Magnum / #88417 for V10 Viper).
* Torque studs to 20-24 ft lbs for #88416 or 30-38 ft lbs for #88417.
* Install Crower rockers arms and sure-lock nuts. Make sure that the pushrods are still seated in the tappets. DO NOT TIGHTEN DOWN NUTS.
* Turn engine over (may require another person) so that cylinder youre adjusting has both the intake and the exhaust lifters on base circle of cam (rocker arms should be level to each other.
* Adjust sure-locks down until clearance at pushrod is zero, then crank down sure-lock a 1/2 to 3/4 turn.
* Lock down Allen-head screw into sure-lock nut.
* Repeat steps rocker adjustment on each cylinder individually.
* When all cylinders are adjusted, pre-lube the rockers with engine oil.
* Reinstall valve covers and valve cover bolts.
* Disable distributor and turn engine over to pump up hydraulic lifters. Enable distributor.
* Start engine and let idle at normal speed.
Note: Initial fire-up may produce tappet noise for a short period of time until lifters have a chance to adjust themselves. If tappet noise continues for more than 30 seconds, shut engine off for about 2 minutes. Start engine again and let idle. Tappet noise should be going away or be gone. Caution: If after 3 or 4 starts and stops (with 2 minute intervals in between) the tappet noise is still there, repeat the rocker arm adjustment steps.
Test drive vehicle, keeping the engine below 4500 rpm for the first 50 miles to allow proper rocker break-in and allow the vehicles computer to adjust to the new modifications.

Message: yes you can adjust them while the engine is running. tends to get a little oily if your not quick enough.
to adjust the rockers while running you will need a feeler gauge(blade type not wire). dont remember exactly how many thousandths, but .015 to .020 keeps popping into my head. gauge on the valve side of rocker, tighten until u can not slide gauge easily and there ya go.
the one thing i dont understand about haynes manual is tellin the person to get the #1 on TDC then not to move the crank again until all the rockers are in place. that just totally goes against what i and everyone else learned

Message: I know what u are saying about the haynes manuel, but think about it. If you don't put all of the rockers on and take them to zero lash and you do the Nr 1 piston and then turn the crank, you are subject to have one of the pushrods fall down inside.
I run crower rockers, and they also say to install all of the rockers to zero lash and then begin bringing the pistons up to TDC one at a time and do the adjustment.
