Message: The small evap leak is your gas cap. Either it's not tightened down or the gasket is shot. The mileage on the other hand could be a number of things...wires, plugs, air filter, etc are the easy ones. It could also be the gas your burning. I was burning 93 octane for a long time, I changed to 87 and started pinging, so changed to 89, and got better mileage as well as for power. How about your oil? multi-weight or just straight 30 weight? 10W-30 synthetic will net you better mileage...the list goes on. Just keep in mind that the CC's and 4X4's are not the most gas thifty trucks when coupled with the 3.9.
If it ain't broke, fix it til it is.

Message: With 10 mpg and that "code" I bet you have a BIG leak. Do you smell gas at the rear?
Check the gas filler tube and where it goes into the gas tank. And get a new gas cap.

Message: small evap leak is not a gas cap.... most small evap leaks are cracked hoses that are normal in areas where there can be movement or vibration... like around intake manifold, gas tank, engine to frame rail like around the canister and so on.... gas caps rarely go bad....

Message: Thank you Scott. I have had that code, and one of my friends had that code, and it WAS caused by the gas cap gasket. You can probably ask around this site as well, it where I got the answer that fixed my code, from what I read it happens quite a bit.
Oh, by-the-way tomtom, check the hose that runs from the top of the tank to the evap canister, it likes to dry rot and crack.
If it ain't broke, fix it til it is.

Message: cuzindoug,
What type of hose is needed to replace that hose from the tank to the evap?
Would an air line hose be OK?
Thanks

If it ain't broke, fix it til it is.
