Subject: Soak fuel inj. in Seafoam? IP: Logged
Message: Pulled the fuel injectors on my 98 while working on the intake manifold. I considered sending them out to be sonically cleaned, but the truck has 180,000 miles and still gets 20 mpg combined city/highway so I figured why spend the $120. It did occur to me to soak them in Seafoam (maybe 24hrs?)to clean carbon off before reinstalling them? What do you think?

Message: It won't hurt anything
If they still work why not run the tank down to
1/4 add 2 bottles of injector cleaner put 50 to
100 miles on it than fill the tank
It wil clean the seats and pintels out
There is also a sain if its not broke why fix it
I have seen injectors with over 500,000 miles on
them and still working well

Message: Mine is an '02 with 53K miles on the clock. Just week before last, I took some of these guys' advice, and bought a can of Seafoam. I put 2/3's of it in the gas tank, and the remaining 1/3 in the crankcase. Truck runs smoother, doesn't "stumble" at a light anymore, and the mileage went up a tad. I'm on the 2nd tank after putting it in the tank, and the mileage is still holding up. I'm sold!

Message: I've used Seafoam in the gas, intake, and crankcase before. I WILL NEVER run it in the crankcase again of any vehicle with high miles that might have some sludge. THe Seafoam knocked loose a ton of sludge and clogged up my oil pump pickup tube. I had to pull the pan and clean out 3 inches of sludge from the bottom of the pan. Probably did some damage to the bearings, but the engine does have 180,000 miles on it so I can't complain if it gives up the ghost in the near future.
I was impressed with how the seafoam cleaned up the engine and made it run smoother.

Message: if you have alot of sludge, get an engine flush service done. I've mentioned it many times here before. push cleaning solution in filter port at around 42psi and vaccuum it out the pan.
my old 95 went from like < 13 or 14 mpg no matter how I babied it to 16+ mpg. I was told it removed alot of sludge. Never had a problem with clogging of pump or filter.
