I was told that the reason why i cant shift my 98 v6 auto into neutral and reverse is because of the selector cable.... Does anyone know where it is located in reguard to the situation... and is it possible to fix?

Yes....well what happens is when i shift it over to neutral its like shifting it into first...same with reverse. Its getting really old pushing my truck backward...no one makes pull-thru parking anymore.

How does park and the other gears work? this will help in the diagnosis. can you shift it all the way down to the 1 or not? a little more detail will help.

Yes i can shift into park, although as soon as i shift out it jumps like it was receiving gas. As i switch to reverse it moves slowely forward, i switch to neutral and it will move forward if i apply gas, drive 2nd and 1st act normally.

Ok the linckange on most veichcles is not a cable but a connecting rode. it's sould like your tranny needs to have some internal adjustments, that i would suggest a professinal do. it is a very safisticated piece of machinery and takes great skill to properly repair and adjust.

Turn the key on do not start shift threw the gears
can you fell each pop in from the detent ball on
the internal linkage and shift valve
It almost sounds like you lookup is stuck on
You have a RE elect gov pressure control if the
presure sensor snd or sol go bad these trans
will do some very strange things
Replace them both as a pair and change the filter
and usr good fluid Amsoil, Redline or chrysler +4
Go from there before anyone tells you that you
need a trans or complete overhall

Hey larry.... ok i tried it. What is involved in doing what you said i need to do... I do how to drain the fluid from the pan. is that how i need to do it?
