Hi,

A few questions about my 2001 Club Cab SLT with 3.9 V6 and 42RE trans... just bought it (34K miles)

I'm wondering if steering is normal or not. Seems very responsive, almost twitchy. No play whatsoever. Has 255/65R16's... whatta think?

1-2 shift is a bit sloppy, I've read that adjusting throttle cable may help?

Trans filler tube/dipstick is rubbing underside of hood. Checked tube and it looks seated in transmission....anybody else have this issue?

Finally, AIR BAG light will come on depending on steering wheel (tilt) position. anybody else?

Thanks

the airbag light is due to a bad clock spring behind the steering wheel or the wiring that leads up the clock spring is broken somewhere in the column

There was a recall for years 97-00 for the air bag problem. Even though yours is a '01 check with the dealer.

on the 01 right behind the bracket pass side take
your finger and thumb remove clip move TV cable
housing back and replace clip this will advance
the Throttle Valve in the trans and raise the
shift point aprox 3mph and should also firm it up

My opinion of the factory trans set up is very
low they could have doe a lot better job which
would help both performance and gas mileage

On your RE if it starts doing strange things the
first thing to do is replace the presure sensor
and solnoid

There are also shift kits and sonnax makes a
kit that will fix most of the complaints people
have with these transmissions sure cure kit
