Ok so im a dumbass, i know but youve all done it. I live in Panama City...and if you know anything about the strip than you know what goes on all through out spring break.... Cars all over the place and everyone is showing off. So i have an auto and i do a neutral drop to burn some rubber... weve all done it. But now my truck has no neutral, instead in neutral it goes to first gear, and reverse doesnt work either. Im looking for a standard dakota...hopefully an r/t but i need to see if there is something not extreme that i can do to fix it?

well, sounds like you better find a used/rebuilt or new auto tranny. or find another dak with a 5spd manual(by the way, if you want a manual you won't find one in an R/T).

Sounds like your gear selector cable got knocked out of adjustment.. If I had my workbook handy I would look up the adjustment procedure. I hope thats what your problem is.. Sounds like it to me.
I have never neutral dropped any of my dakotas.. And never will :-)

The selector cable actual makes sense.... because it drives forward perfectly no abnormal shifting. Also ive seen alot of r/t's in a manual... did they not originally build them that way or are you saying that they are rare?

DC didn't build the R/T w/ manual trans. if you've seen a lot of them they either weren't really R/T's or they were converted by the owner.
the cable just slipped my mind. i never nuetral drop an auto. power brake, yes.

Never heard of a manual R/T.. Unless it was owner converted. they came from the factory with the 46RE auto trans.. You could get the 4.7 with a 5 speed.. maybe that's what you were thinking of...
