Hi,

I just buy a V6 Dakota, few month ago.

I work month and month on my Dak' (if you want pict, just ask at j.picco@ppmailing.ch).

For the engine, i just change:

- Gibson dual exhaust
- Airraid intake
- Jet Performance chip, stage 2
- Jet Peformance Thermostat

But I am not happy with the performances.

The engine is ''slow and soft'', and with jet performance stage 2, the shiftings of speed and accelerations are too slow. I removed this chip.

What do you recommend me, to obtain a sharper and powerful engine? I cannot give this engine to a specialist, because there is no specialist here.

But I would like to find the good parts to mount and have a powerfull engine (without spending a fortune).

Thank you very much of your assistance.
Jopi

Do not take this as a slam but you have a V6 (so do I) so this will not happen with out spending 2 to 4 thousand dollars.

A few mods you can do is what every one says to do, Bigger TB (I have done this and I tink it is a joke), Roller Rockers, diferant cam, gears, turbo/super charger (big bucks), super chip, shift kit, headders, and what not.

My 98 3.9 just turned 500,000 miles. Same engine & automatic transmission. Amsoil works!
To improve MPG I installed: Jacobs Pro-street Ignition, Amsoil Bypass filters & air filter, Flowmaster muffler. The only thing that made a dramatic differance was Gibson Headers. Power around 2,000 RPM, where the engine lives, not the rarely visited 5,000 RPM.
MPG is wierd. 21 sometimes. 15 sometimes. Overall, high 18's.

could be a few things. have you checked for codes? mileage problem could be the O2, underinflated or out of alignment tires. the idle miss could be the IAC.

how many miles? has it ever had a tune up?

Fernando: My posi-trac story is; under hard acceleration in heavy rain. I spun out so fast I still don't know which direction I spun! Be careful.

WYOCWBOY: My 3.9 was missing on #4 cylinder. I heard a leaking plenum could cause it so I set aside a weekend. The problem was the camshaft was severely pitted and pritty well worn down. Bad news: hard job to do yourself. Good news 1: runs like it did when it was young; even idle, smooth power, 2MPG better.
Good news 2: AMSOIL allowed me to get 502,000 miles out of the original camshaft. After thinking long and hard I think I've driven at least 300,000 miles sick.
The computer will give you pretty much the same MPG no matter how sick the truck. But if the distributor has been moved it will mess up the fuel injection timing, giving horrid MPG. The ignition timing is not adjustable. Here is a quick check: Set the front pully to Top Dead Center. It is the cut all the way across the balance wheel behind the pully and it lines up with the marks on the engine hidden behind the oil cooler below the heater water hose on the right side. You can turn things using the Serpantine Belt. Best leave the ignition off. Using a Phillips head screwdriver remove the distributor cap. Push it aside enough to see the rotor. Hopefully it is pointing left to #1. wire. Directly under the rotor is a small cut or notch in the edge of the case. If they don't line up you are screwed forever. Kidding. Loosten the hold down nut (13mm=1/2") under the left side of the distributor and turn the case until they align. That it how the factory sets them up. No timing lights or complicated tools. Stupid-simple. In otherwords, all of us can do it.
Let us know the results.

I have a dakota with a V6 and I despise that powerless motor. I got the truck a fair deal. I'd say put a chipped up 4.7L V8 in it.

Is there somethin wrong with yall's trucks? All I hear is how slow they are and how nobody can get the tires to spin. I'm not beig a smarta$$ by no means. But my 93 3.9 with some fat tall tires on the rear still burn through first and second, and chirp in third at 55-60. Hmmmmm. I dunno.
