Subject: Wet passenager side floor IP: Logged
Message: I have a 02 dakota and recently I have been getting a wet passenger side floor when it rains. I took it to get looked at and they found that my back window is loose and causing water to seep in when it rains causing a huge water problem on the inside. I currently have everything out of my truck: carpet (because it's soaked), seats etc. Has anyone else experienced this problem?????

Message: I did that but the dealer told me it wasn't the TSB and it wasn't covered by my warrenty. So they told me to go to a glass guy. Which I guess is a blessing in disquise because I have wanted to get a sliding rear window so now I am sort of being forced to :) The bad thing is I live in California and its raining like crazy right now, so I took my carpet out of my truck because otherwise it would be beyond soaked. Thanks for the advise though.

Message: That sounds like what was stated in the TSB. The AC has a leak that makes the passenager side floor wet. You should have the dealer take a look at that one and refer to TSB #23-010-04 from 09/09/04. It states that the seal that is between the heater housing and the bulkhead is not sealed correctly, and the A/C evaporator and can run along the evaporator drain tube and enter the passenger ompartment carpet. That what I orignally thought mine was, until the dealer ripped everything out of my truck as we found a small pin hole leak on the lower passenger corner of my rear window.

Message: How funny... I have a 99 and my passenger side is soaked too... Mine leaks from the back sliding windows also (extended cab), but this problem is coming from the front. Not sure if its a bad seal from the windshield, etc. (you figure you could see it if it was coming from the windshield though), or if its something with my AC. Mine only leaks if it has rained for hours upon hours.
Dont you just love the suprises our Daks give us...
Ill keep checking back for more answers...

Message: Mine also leaks from the passenger side fold out window at the bottom. I just can't win. The water travels from the leak down behind all the panels along the passenger door and pools on the floor in front of the passenger seat. Currently I have the carpet out of my truck because it's the rainy season here in cali and I am tired of the soaking carpet. :( So you maybe having the same issue if it only happens when it rains.

Message: My 93 extended cab had that problem. I litteraly tore the inside of the cab out, only to find it was the rear (sliding) window seal. In my case, the problem was that the drain holes in the bottom of the seal were clogged with dirt and gunk. They are supposed to allow water that collects in the window track to drain to the outside of the body, but when they clog, the water fills up the lower track and spills over to the INSIDE of the cab.

Message: I ended up ripping everything out of my cab (seats, center consol, and carpet) and I had a normal back window, which was leaking from the lower passenager side corner, I got it replaced with a sliding window (that I always wanted) and since I did that I have had no water in my truck. So me and my husband replaced everything inside and now it's back to normal. So if I were you I would have all the window seals checked for minor leaks and just because the water is in the front doesn't mean that is where it is coming from. Best of luck to all. Also if your carpet it wet it's best to take it out to let it dry so it doesn't mildew.

Message: Although I can visible see if leaking from my back sliding glass windows.. it doesnt appear to be leaking that much.. plus I have my sub and amp back there... dont you think if my problem was coming from the back windows it would cause noticable electric problems?? And when yours was leaking from the back, was there a puddle in the back cab as well as the front?? Mine is just in the front.

Message: Mine was only wet in the front it was dripping right next to my back seat then traveling along the door frame and pooling up front under the passenger side carpet. I am telling you it's worth getting looked at. Because mine only looked like a drip but in reality it was bringing in a lot more water then it looked like. Also don't most amps and subs plug in on the back so you wouldn't have problems unless it was submerged, the bottom of them might be getting wet. It's a big pain in the ass I am telling you but once it's fixed everything is better.

Message: Ditto to Brandee's comments. On my truck there is an extra sheet of metal inside the cab below the back window. The water was dripping down BETWEEN that sheet metal and the outer body skin, making it hard to detect at first. It then runs around the perimeter of the floor which provides a channel for it to find it's way the the front floor boards. It's amazing how much water "a little drip" can amount too.

Message: That's exactly what it was. Thank you Chris. It is amazing how much that little drip can cause a bunch of water to pool up in the front. :)

Message: I have an 02 as well. I had the same problem. Carpet on the passenger side would get soaked. It is actually from the air conditioner drain hose. Dodge put a foam spongy gasket between the drain pan located on the inside of the truck and the firewall. The gasket leaks. I took my carpet out and with needle nose pliers and a razor I pulled the gasket out. I then, from under the hood, located the drain hose and placed marine grade silicon on my finger and surrounded the outside of the hose and firewall. I haven't had a problem since and it has been almost a year. I also had window seals replaced but that was never the problem under warranty but then gave up on the dealer and fixed it myself.

Message: I found out all mine was, was a welding issue by Dodge. The seam right below my rear window was not welded properly and therefore water was getting in. My father-in-law had the same issue with his 86 Ram.

Message: I noticed my 2001 Dodge Dakota SLT regular cab was VERY wet on the passenger side floor. I must have absorbed up to a gallon of water from under the carpet. I installed a 3/4 elbow to the stock AC drain tube located on the firewall on the passenger side. I also used RTV Silicone to seal around the AC drain tube. The cheap foam gasket that was originally used has rotted and was allowing water to leak back into the floor of the truck. I also removed the third brake light cover and applied a bead of RTV silicone before putting it back. I've heard the gasket on this brake light can fail and cause a leak. I'm waiting to see if the leak has been fixed with my fingers crossed!

Message: I called a dodge dealership and spoke to a member of the service department. He told me that a tech they have employed there had the same problem with his Dakota. He installed a cheap 3/4 elbow to the AC drain located on the firewall in the engine compartment. He also sealed up around the AC drain with silicone and it fixed the leak.

Message: I called a local dodge dealership about the TSB directly related to a wet passenger side floor. The TSB is very specific about a design flaw with the AC drain at the firewall and it provides a fix. The dealer advised they would not cover it free of charge. It was explained to me that TSB is not a recall thus I would have to pay for the repair. The TSB called for a total work time of 15 minutes. So much for service after the sell!
