Message: I don't know if it goes the same for our dakotas, but when I changed the one in my moms jeep, I found out you pretty much have to destroy the factory one to get it off. I used a small flat head screw driver to wedge out the top plastic that has the shift pattern on it. Its not easy to get out either it will take some work and thats what destroys it. then one you have that off you will see a nut that you can remove and you can take it off from that point.

Message: also the new one can have threads in it to screw onto your shaft > I made my own. Cue ball . It's the 8 ball with the 8 lined with the shaft. Just drill dead center through the 8 on the other side of the ball to get it perfect. You'll need the proper tap to thread it or have a shop do it > pretty cheap.
So many problems .... So little time
