Subject: Voltmeter pegging IP: Logged
Message: 4 or 5 times within the last month on extended trips, the chime has gone off and when I look, the "CHECK GAUGES" lamp has lit up. When I check the gauges, the voltmeter is pegged.
Just running around town, I haven't had the problem. Each time that it's occurred, I've been on trips of at least 100 miles, so the truck has been running pretty hard for a couple hours.
Turning the headlights on has resolved it each time. What would cause it to overcharge? And where is the voltage regulator on an '02?
My little brother is a mechanic, but he's not familiar with Mopar stuff. According to him, it's in the computer. Anybody know if there is a TSB for it?

Message: Here is anothe reason I recomend everyone have
there own scanner
AutoXray
obd1 $150
obd2 $200
check and see if the volts are going up or is
it the guage or a bad ground will cause this
The regulator is in the computer and can not be
replaced by its self also a bad alt will do this
You can get a new used or reman comp but you will
need to have your vin # and mileage flased in by
a dealer at a cost of $75 some dealers however
will do it for free
