Subject: Exhaust Size?
IP: Logged

Message:
I am looking to upgrade my exhaust on my '03 3.9 SXT and I have a couple questions. I was looking at single outlet stainless catbacks but all that I am finding are 3" that are for the 3.9/5.9.
1. Will I lose performance if I put a 3" on my 3.9? (Low end?)
2. If I stay with the 2.5" I am going to purchase a Flowmaster 40 and just leave the rest of the exhaust as is for now. Is the easiest flowmaster to fit the truck a offset in and offset out?

My only other mod at this time a an airaid CAI. Thanks for everyones time.

I have the flowmaster 40 and custom exhaust that is stock size, the flowmaster is center and center, no offset needed on the 3.9. It fits with plenty of room. I dont know much about going to 3 inch except what I read here and it is not suggested because you will not get exhaust scavenging, therefore you will lose lowend power.

2.5 in out with a stock or mandrel 2.5 tail
always shows the best hp and torque on the dyno

Yes a 3" system will lowe backpresure and cause
a low end loss

The series 40is rather loud a 50 or a dynomax
11748 is just a little louder than stock

I used a dynomax 2 3/4 system and ended up making
an incert 9" long and put it in the end of
the tail to bring my back presure back up so
it would run right and man before I did that
the 17797 muff would blow you out of the cab

It took me 3 trys to get the baffle right something you all should try once playing with the
back presure you can realy tune these babies in
nice from 2000 to 5000rpm with the perf comp
man shes got some nice torque now and sounds
great
