Message: I'm looking for a ram air kit for my 2001 3.9 dakota. I was wondering if the volant 3.9 kit for the 2001 Ram would fit the dakota. I dont think volant makes ram air for dakotas. If this doesnt work, what other system would you guys suggest?

Message: I made my own on my 95 with a lund eclisp scoop
and the K&N extream top on a K&N 14X3 and it works
great
Look at KRC racing they have ram and cowl hoods
for the Daks

Message: Mr Cheap made his from a dryer vent. It's shiny, flexible and fits nisely from the cut off intake of the box to the opened rubber beside the radiator.
No change in performance, but a great accumulation of dirt and bugs and crap to sort through.
I also wrapped the filter box with insulation because I figured the header would heat it up.
But I've been wondering why we do all that stuff to get cooler air into the intake system where the plenum is bathed in fresh, hot oil?

I think you need to do some resurch on air temp
and density humidity and than ask the question
again
With my ram air IAT in the intake runs 120 without
it runs 180 190 is that colder hum I think so
But I run an external in the bottom of the air
cleaner that runs 80 to 90 degrees
Why reading colder air advances the timing and
ads more fuel thus making more power
read up on computer controled systems and how they
work than ask the question again

Message: I once shot the engine in a few places with an infrared thermoter, and was astounded how cool the hot engine was. Something like 150 degrees as I recall.
I understand air density, etc. and I suspect your tearing around at warp speed negates what I said about the plenum heating the air because your air passes over it so much faster than me, chugging around at 2,000 RPM, but you lost me at external bottoms. Oh, so thats how to spell pletium.

Message: I never could spell
Anyway there is a actual cover a thin plate bolted
right on the bottom of the intake manifold
If you look down the bores with a light you can
see it made from steel
On my ram air the temp starts to drop at 40mph
more as you go faster, if you watch the temp on
a scanner while driving just opening the throttle
a little the temp drops instantly its cool to
watch this
I have 2 IAT incoming air temp sensors and a
switch in the cab below 30 I run the one in the
intake, above 30 the one in the bottom of the
air cleaner.
If I run the external below 30 temps it will drop
below 50 and set a code IAT volts high it cant
read below 50
