Subject: 3.9L water pump install IP: Logged
Message: How involved is it to change the water pump on my 95 Dakota? I've got the wrenches to remove the fan/clutch assy. The truck makes a horrendous grinding sound when running.I've checked and is definitely not the engine. When I grab the pulley to the water pump it has some movement--not much but enough.I doubt it is the fan/clutch assy!
Thanks

Message: If have the tool to remove the fan clutch than thats half the battle the only other annoying thing...at least for the 98's was the shroud. Than the serpentine belt, and then the fan, after than you just have to remove the 3 bolts...i think..that hold the pump on. just dont get lazy and not clean up the old adhesive...or it will leak when the water gets hot.

Message: don't forget to change that bypass hose while you're in there or you'll regret it later. and just for insurance i have always changed the t-stat too when changing the waterpump.

Message: I highly agree...you might think it doesnt need to be replaced but id replace you stat, serpintine belt, and the pump all at once....the belt is relatively easy if youve done it a time or too...but since its already of....you know.
