Message: may sound stupid, but what about the coolant temp sensor? I ran into that once with my old 95 CC 4x4 3.9L auto. would backfire. Had a shop scan it and they could not find anything wrong. I noticed the temp guage would fluctuate, replaced the temp sensor, no more backfiring.
I'm assuming that since you replaced map and egr, you checked the vacuum? could also be crankshaft position sensor.
The PCM reads pretty much most of the sensors to adjust the air/fuel ratio.

Message: crank sensor is also known as cam sensor and that is located all in the distributor.... you could have a bad coolant temp sensor and or a bad TPS on the throttle body.... it aslo possible that your ignition coil could be breaking down.... and possible that you could have a bad fuel pressure regulator
