Subject: What Should I Do? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2001 3.9 V-6 2-wheel drive dakota. Its an automatic and stock everything. My question is should I lower it new wheels and tires and fix up the engine and what not some...or should I just not? See what I want to do is race on mountain passes. So it would be a lot of sharp turn and some straight-a-ways. Remember its an automatic. I really want to race it but I don't want to spend 1000's apon 1000's on it. I said to myself if i do do it then no ONE part more than 1000 dollars.

Message: Lower it mildly, either get new wheels and tires, or just wrap the stock wheels with some nice rubber. As for the engine, Intake, TB, Cam, Rockers, better flowing exhaust, maybe some boost for those straights, hel1 its pretty much whatever you think would be the right way to go. If it were mine I would start from the inside of the engine and work out, starting with cams and RR's. These will surely get you a good amount of ponies. If you want better suspension just get a belltech kit lower it 3/4 nothing to hardcore like 5/6 because that will get you a little close to the black top, and then get some rubber. Its up to you.

Message: Harrison ...... You best think on this some more. No way are you going to build a mountain pass racer with no knowledge of building it right plus strone enough to stay together. You want to change the suspention. That's your life line guy. Start out on the safer end of racing. 1/8 or 1/4 mile . ovel track or something simular. Work your way up slow as you learn. You may not be doing what you want right off but you most likely will be alive to think about it.
So many problems .... So little time
