Subject: question for larry IP: Logged
Message: Hey larry, just wondering how much abuse the 3.9 will take? With a truck with 125,000 miles on it, im beginning to wonder just how much longer its going to run. The previous owner run the crap out of it but still did the scheduled maintenance when due.

Message: My 91 3.9 has 178,200 and still going strong... doesn't really use oil, just started to burn it, but only when you really get on it, and not that bad... It's getting a little tired... Honestly, most of those miles are city, and the truck was never babied... That motor has chewed up 2 good transmissions... The factory one, and then again after a rebuild, now it's on the third.

P.S. I know, I'm not Larry... just wanted to throw in my opinion...

Message: These are very tough motors I know 1 guy with
350,000 miles besides the timing chain and
water pump and o2 sensor he has done nothing but
change the fluids reg maint. and its still
running great
The motor in my 95 4X4 has 112'000 and I still
rev it over 4'000 rpm every time I drive it
The lower end will hold up to a 100 shot of
nitrious and hold up just fine I would say
that is a strong motor

Message: In January I traded in my 1995 CC 4x4 3.9L Auto with 166k miles on it. I got an 02 QC 4x4 4.7L Auto.
I changed alot of parts - sensors, brakes, stuff like that. Nothing major with engine or transmissions.
I drove that thing hard and in alot of dirty/dusty conditions.

Message: My 93 3.9 w/ 132,000k is still a powerhouse. I'm ganna take a few pics of my dak first thing in the morning and show you guys what it looks like. It's got a 4 1/2 inch custom harwood cowl, duals and some pretty fat tires in the rear. And it has the nut to back up the looks also. Burnem in first and second. Chirpem in third at 55-60mph. No joke either.

Message: I had a 99 3.9 that was going strong when I traded it with 258,000 miles. Never touched the engine or tranny (manual). Just regular oil and filter changes; wasn't using a drop of oil.

Message: 1995 3.9L Original owner 165,000 miles, I've got the original engine and transmission. I've changed the timing chain twice and recently have made mods that I heard about on this site. I've always changed the oil at 3000 miles and when something seems not right I fix it or get it fixed. I'd say it's a tough engine.
