A while ago I had my transmission rebuilt and also installed Transgo shift kit. Since then I was hearing a loud clank or bang whenever I was releasing the gas pedal after upshifting to the 2nd gear. Didn't hear it in any other position. I went back to the transmission shop that did the work, though I had no expectation whatsoever that they will like "yeah, sure, we'll take it apart and check it for you..". And of course they said that it is OK and it's probably the shift kit which is doing this. I keep driving like this and then one evening I was browsing the service manual, reading about transmission fluid and it says there, quote: "Dexron is not really recommended". And they put Dexron in my tranny. So I did tranny flush and replaced the fluid with Amsoil synthetic ATF and that's it. No clank, no bang, nothing. Smooth and quiet. It works.

Since 1999, due to the special requirements of their automatic transmissions, Chrysler has recommended a unique ATF+4 formulation. In addition, Chrysler has been recommending ATF+4 for all previous makes and models of Chrysler Corporation vehicles. ATF+4 is a VERY highly friction modified fluid.

I run all amsoil fluids and they help perf and
gas mileage

However I do run royal purple in my motors now
with a K&N HP2004 filter 4 to 6,000 miles

Don't forget when you get the performance pcm
you will need to run premium fuel or it will
ping like crazy but if your foot out of it the
exra timing will give you better mileage

Thanks, Larry. I already run premium fuel, because of Jet stage 2 chip. And with Amsoil ATF I have now synthetics everywhere: Mobil 1 in the engine (will change to amsoil or royal purple at the next change), amsoil in the tranny and redline in the differentials.

I do appreciate the fact that Steve the Amsoil guy is a paying member so I can ride free, but the main reason he uses this board is to advertise his product. It is kind of like getting junk mail or spammed all the time. Yes, Amsoil is a great product, I am not knocking that.

500,000 miles. Origonal 3.9 engine and auto transmission.
Amsoil Series 2000 0-30 motor oil with the dual by-pass filter system, mounted under the bed. ATF for the transmission.
Change engine filter at 15,000 miles and add oil. Use Oil Analysers to lab test sample around 30,000 to 50,000 miles. Change ATF around 14,000 miles.
That's the plan. Seems to work.
