Message: I have a Gen I Dakota and having some weird squealing noise coming from inside either the tranny or the converter. Not sure. Its a high pitch whine or squeal, however it doesn't sound like metal against metal and it only squeals when the drive shaft is rotating in forward motion. I tried spinning the rear wheel as if it was moving in reverse and no squeal. Any ideas?
Checked fluid.. no problem there. Was driving when the squealing noise first came up... The 'anti-lock' brake light came on less than 10 seconds after the squeal started and hasn't left yet. Shifts like normal. Did have some trouble idling momentarily after I pulled over to inspect squeal noise, but now idles fine. Having trouble trying to read codes for 'anti-lock' brake system. Not sure why it would go off if noise was coming from tranny.
Long post I know. This is my only vehicle and I hope this isn't major. Can't afford to keep it if it is. Any advise or knowledge, please.
