Subject: 92-93 Exhaust Manifold (1st Post) IP: Logged
Message: Been lurking the forums for two months. My first dakota, 93 3.9L 4x4, after 247,343 miles started to burn a quart of oil every 250 miles. Needless to say, she was a warrior. Bone stock. Only major repair in that time was to replace water pump, while doing that, gasket tore at oil pan meaning lot more work. Fun Weekend that was. My christmas present to myself was a 2000 3.9L 4x4. After my 1st dakota it was a no brainer to get another. Thanks for the input.
I am in the process of planning out some mod's for the new one. While searching the forums it has been suggested by a few to save the money on headers and use the exhaust manifold from a 92-93 3.9L dakota. Tried calling mopar and performance shops to get an answer, couldn't give one. Hence, join the board. What makes them so good and will they fit a 2000 3.9L 4x4? Will it make a difference?

Message: larger exhaust journals
(hence increased flow/increased hp & trq)

Message: they were good for 5hp gain over what the '94-'03 3.9's were. 180hp as opposed to 175hp.

Message: Joe,
What are the journals? Are they the actual ports.Called a couple yards today, and found one that has a couple sets of 93' exhaust manifolds. 75$ a set. I'll check them out tommorrow to see if real difference.

Message: yes, also called ports
i'd take one of yours with you if possible
unless your real familiar with the manifolds
already seen a few salvage yards selling 94/95's and claiming they came of a 93

Message: Did not have chance to take one of mine of to compare the ports. Measured the outside dimension with dial calipers. The 93' are .165 in. bigger around main tube. Sidewalls same thickness. Checked the numbers with dodge dealer to see if legit, and they are. So for 70$,what the heck, port and polish them, put them on and see what happens. Found a place two hour drive away that can ceramic coat the inside and outside for $150. Invest of $220 is not to bad if I decide to ceramic coat.
