I have determined that the master cyl on my 93 dakota is the reason for my brake trouble, so I went and got a new one. But Im haveing trouble removeing the old one, I bought the correct size flarenut wrench but for some reason I cannot get the flarenuts to back out even after applying large quantitys of penatrateing lube to them, its almost like there siezed to the cylinder. my question is, is there some trick to removeing them and which way do they turn? to the left or right. Right now the nuts are about to round over with the flare wrench so the next step is going to be vise grips if it wont come out.

there is no "trick", they should come off with just a flare nut wrench. have you tried spraying some PB Blaster on them. i've heard people say nothing beats it for loosening rusty parts.

Heat is the best thing here and lots of it. If the lines are at all rusty keep a close eye on the steel lines and make sure they are not twisting.
Torches are best, a good propane or butane will sometimes do the trick aswell.

Heat might work on most parts but not something that has brake fluid. I am pretty sure that stuff is flammable. I was able to use a hammer to tap on it lightly. Whenever I try and apply pressure slowly it doesn't work out right.

I finally got the nuts off, I got some PB blaster an let it soak in and it didnt work and I ended up striping the nut with the flarenut wrench, so out came the vise grips, needless to say I got them loose with the vise grips. The heads are messed up but the threads still work so I dont care, now all I have to do is bleed the system and ill be done.

under open flame Brake fluid will catch fire but if everthing is still sealed then I've never had a problem, just watch out for plastic and rubber components inside the MasterCyl and the surounding areas.
