Message: I have a 1998 v6 4x4 dakota. When the engine is under load, you can feel it slightly misfiring. The best way to reproduce this is when it shifts into overdrive at mph's between about 40-55, above that the misfiring stops. Also does it when going up hills in overdrive. It will not do it when out of overdrive unless I'm towing something really heavy. Only does it when engine is warmed up. I have replaced spark plugs twice, replaced spark plug wires, replaced distributor cap and rotor twice and ran fuel injector cleaner multiple times and the problem has not been fixed. Does anyone know what might be wrong or have had a simular experience?
Thanks,
David

Message: where is your ignition coil wire routed? it should be ran on the side of the intake side of the valve cover. (opposite the side of the plug wires) there was a TSB out for this

Message: couple of things you might check for. Weak coil. weak charging system alowing for low voltage. one bad injecter not working proper under heavy load.
So many problens .... So little time

Message: have you checked codes to see which cylinder is misfiring? if you can find that out you could try swapping injectors around to see if it is actually a bad/weak injector. if swapped the miss will follow the bad injector.

Message: Check engine light is not on, I have no trouble codes. I have the newest autoxray and it doesn't tell me if any cylinders are misfiring. Battery outputs 14.1 volts. The coil wire is ran next to the sparkplug wires though, I am going to try and re-route it tomorrow. Other than the coil wire being away from the other wires, is there any other special way I should route the other wires that I need to know about? Right know they go down the back of the engine and then around the outside of the valve covers. Also, how can I check for a weak coil? Thanks guys for the help!

Message: I seem to remember a problem like this. I wanna say it was caused by the TCC solenoid rapidly locking and unlocking the torque converter. Does not show codes because the circuit is physically working...something to think about.
