Subject: Don't do your own TB porting! IP: Logged
Message: I found this out the hard way. I removed the throttle blade screws and they stripped a little. Then when reinstalling, one sheared off halfway inside the hole. I wanted to cry. My brand new V8 TB sitting there, useless. So, I sent an email the Bernd to ask if I could send back to have him repair it because I don't want anyone over here to rape me on labour costs. (British people around the base are known for this.) Then I decided to contact Fastman. He said the screws are very soft and do that often. He is going to clean it up, radius the bores and replace the shaft and blades with his thinner ones. He really knows his stuff too. Really great guy. So, moral of the story:
Don't take your brand new $230 V8 TB apart and dremel it. (Wasn't the dremel that hurt it though.) Make sure to leave this to the pros. If they break it, they fix it. If you break it, they still fix it but at your cost.

Yup, Dan is an excellent resource on fixing throttle bodies. (That's why we use him as well.)

Message: Why were you taking out the blades?
You should have been able to do all you were going to with em in.
You dont want to remove any material from the area where the blades almost touch on seat anyway.
Glad it has a happy ending though.

Message: I removed the blades to properly clean the aluminum dust that was getting on the shaft and blades. I was afraid it might find it's way in between the shafts and it's bearings. And fast4x4 apparently had no problems with this because he did this (he removed more material though). I am going to ship it out Monday. He assured me that his 46mm would have been everything I ever need. With his thinner shaft/blades, his 46 should flow with the 48. I wasn't aware of this so I jumped on the 48mm bandwagon. I was almost tempted to do like Fazdak and have him make it a 50mm but he said that was WAY too big so he is going to keep it at 48 but do everything else to it for me. He was really nice and gave me alot of helpful advice.
