wow, here in new england it is starting to get cold, my straight cab V6 dakota is not shifting up when it is cold. if tacks out a bit and lags and then it will shift. i guess thats what happens when a guy takes exceptional care of the transmission and fluid. it is not slipping. when the fluids get warm it is fine.

My 93dakota does the same thing, I had a guy that has worked at a chrysler dealership for many years take a look at it. This guy also owns a v6 dak. He said the seals in the clutch are wore out, try letting the truck sit in Newtral before taking off, that away the fluid can circulate. Ive been doin this and has been shifting a little sooner but still does it.

yeah, the transmission will shift fine if it is warmed up, but cold.....no way....anyone know if the fluid circulates when it is in park?

I have an automatic and have only had one manual trans truck before. My first response was "Yes it does circulate", then I started to over think things... I looked it up and yes it does. Some of the gears move without the trans in gear. So, yes, letting it idle before driving will heat the fluid up before you actually drive it.

thanks to all, this page is great! i do notice if it is warmed, the auto tranny will be fine, but as i mentioned cold it is a bear. the filter is fine and the fluid has also been changed every year, usually in the spring. i use this truck like a full size truck, it plows and pulls a flat bed with 3000lbs on it. the dealer says this tranny is a problem tranny but i have never had any problems with it until this year at 90,000 miles on it. and the only problem is its shifting up while it is stone cold. thanks again everyone. rich from new england.
