Message: Hey DAKO MAKO,
If you are filling up every time the light comes on, you are going to have problems in the long run. Your fuel pump is working harder when the fuel gets to that point and you will eventually have fuel pump problems. Anyone else agree?
I couldn't tell you what I get per tank full, but I will fill it back up when it gets between 1/4 and 1/2. My mpg is normally between 18 and 19.5 and that is driving the speed limit between highway and city. 2001 Dak, V-8 with 4.7 no mods whatsoever unless a K&N drop in is considered a mod LOL!

Message: I get horrible milage in my 2003 3.9L SXT auto. I fill up just before the light comes on. I get on average 190 - 210 miles per fill up. I fill 15.5 gallons usually. Around 12-15 mpg. Does anyone know why the milage is so horrible. I don't think it is the way i drive. What could cause such an inordinate consumption of gas?

Message: My 97 Dak has a 22 gal tank and at the 1/4 tank mark, I usually get 280-320 depending on how much lead was in my foot that week. In the summer out on the hiway, I get 320-360 out of 3/4s of a tank.

Message: I own a 89 Dakota, six, 4x4. Its got around 190K on the beast and is still screaming. No, not really. Shes still ticking, and I get about 15-16 MPGs. Thats combined city/highway.
Further, I have 235/75/15 tires on that hum while driving down the street. Prior to putting these bad boys on, I got on an 18-19 gallon drive around the block, I'd say pushing 310 - 320+ total miles used. Now with the eariler mentioned sized tires, about 280 - 290 miles per 18.5 gallons of gas. You do the math, I don't feel like it. :P
Another mention. Did do a highway MPGs check once thou, and I did 46.7 miles on something like 2.25 gallons of gas. Thats going 65 MPH with very little aceleration and ALL highway. Thats, over twenty MPGs. Go figure, that means somewhere in there I am getting 10 MPGs to round out to 15 average. Do you follow. That says something about gears and one's lead foot. ...Not to mention, how much stop n' go driving I do. oh well, guess I can't complain really. If I had it my way, I would buy a bigger truck and would be paying even more at the pump. lol

Message: I drive a combo of city/freeway in Phoenix, and I get just under 20mpg taking it easy (no jackrabbit starts, shift between 2000 and 2500rpm) I get around 15mpg towing my 2500lb boat and family. I keep good plugs and a clean air filter in it, but it has the origional cap/rotor/wires/timing chain on a 177,000 mile motor. I believe the previous owner replaced all of the O2 sensors though. I would check the O2 sensors if your getting bad milage.
