Message: I know when a battery goes dead that hooking up some cables and jump starting the truck will work, but will jumpstarting work if the alternator is failing??

Message: probably not. if the battery is weak and the alt is not putting out then there would be no power to run anything. also, sometimes if the battery has a bad cell, you can't even jump start it.

Message: The lights and radio work fine, but there just does not appear to be enough juice to turn over the motor. I get one click, then nothing. I put jumber cables on it and was able to start it that way.

Or dirty, corroded wires and connections.
Go to Advance Auto to test the parts.
