Subject: V8 Throttle mount IP: Logged
Message: Has anyone ever tried to make a ball/stud mount on the V8 TB so you can use your V6 throttle cable? Think its possible? If so, what did you use.

Message: Somewhere in this forum I read that you can grind the ball down to form the disc that the v6 uses. I just bought a v8 throttle body as well, but have yet to receive it so I haven't attempted it yet. Whether this is true or not I don't know, hope this helps!

Message: There is no ball on the V8 throttle shaft. I need to add one to make it work for the V6 throttle cable. The V8 cable end uses the disc but it is higher up on the shaft and will not work with the ball/stud V6 set up.

Message: The other option is to have your TB bored to 48mm and save all the time and worry about installing a v8 tb.

Message: Your best bet is to switch to a v8 throttle cable, the v6 throttle cable will snap after a mild amount of use. Just go to a junk yard or dealership and ask for the v8 throttle cable.

Message: tek, why do you say "the v6 cable will snap after a mild amount of use"? this doesn't make sense.

Message: I replaced the cable w/ a V8 cable I think it was 35$ new. The hardest part was snapping the firewall clip out. I also remember someone saying they used a Ball/stud kit from Summit or Jegs.

Message: If you are handy you can find 1/4 inch ball studs at many hobby stores. Just remove the disk stud by grinding flush then drill, tap and install the stud. Also I have found that many junk yards don't pull the throttle cable. For the most part they just sit there until the rot or end up in the compactor. If you buy the tb in a junk yard ask them if you can go out and pull the cable yourself.

Message: I tried to drill out the spot where I would attach the ball stud. I could not do it. Mopar must heat treat or anneal the metal so it cannot be altered. I used the best carbide new bit that I could get and nothing would go through it. If you look at the V8 throttle shaft you will see the flat spot opposite the cruise control attachment disc. That is where the ball stud should mount in order to get it to be in the same spot as the V6. The other method to use would be to get another V6 throttle shaft then maybe dremel or sawzall the shaft where the throttle plates are and swap in the V8 plates. The slots aren't quite wide enough to put the V8 plates in the V6 shaft. Then instal the modified shaft into the V8 TB. Anyone do that trick?

Message: Yep, you can lengthen the slot in the throttle shaft to accomodate the v8 plates. The problem many people have is that the screws are staked in place and if you are not careful they frequently break off and you have to drill them out and find replacements. Even when you do get them out the thread tend to get distorted and need to be reconditioned by running roll-form tap thru the holes.

Message: Well, I managed to drill out the spot that I needed now I just have to wait for the ball stud kit to arrive from Holley. Then its a matter of tapping out the hole and attaching it. When I am finished I would like to attach a picture so you can see how it turned out. Hope this all works out!
