I have a 92 Dakota W/90K miles on it. Was making a 240 Mile trip, and 75 miles into trip, while driving at 65mph, it kind of bucks, sputters, and I am unable to rev the engine, but the lights/radio/etc stay on. I pulled over, let it idle for a while, sounded fine, then kept going. I replaced the fuel filter and pump that day. Another 60 miles, same thing happens, it just bucks and I have to come to a complete stop before driving again. Took it to dealer, comp not throwing codes... what gives? I also replaced cat 2 weeks ago!

You said you have to come to a complete stop. Does it seem like it may be trans related?

When was your last tune-up? I've seen spark plugs go bad to the point where they would only screw up when they were real hot...(i.e. 75 miles later) Just bringing the car to idle for a few minutes would allow the plug to cool off enough to run properly. I would check your primary and secondary ignition components first.

I can't tell if it is the transmission or not... but it drives perfect if I'm just around town, so i don't think that is it. It's at the mechanic now... he thinks it is the distributor pickup

marc92dak,
did you ever find out what the problem
was? I THINK I have the same problem. Coughed,
sputtered, died today. Let it cool off for
about 10 minutes while I grabbed some octane
boost and fuel injector cleaner and that seemed
to of fixed it, or maybe temporarily. Poured the
stuff in just in case.
