well i finally got my superchip tuner in last night. at first, i installed the 91 octane performance program. i hamnmered it out of my road and it was pinging like hell. i only had 87 octane gas in the tank. i then switched to the 87 octane program and it stopped pinging. it made a very big improvement in acceleration and shifting. as soon as i empty this tank of 87 octane, i will run some 91 octane in it and install the 91 octane performance program and se how much of an improvement it makes. it definately was worth the money.

just go to ebaymotors.com and type in 3715. that is the model number. look for an auction from casanova speed shop. it is $399 with a $110 instant rebate so you get it for $289 with free shipping. it took right at one week for shipping.

That Superchips tuner is great, isn't it? I love mine. I can smoke my tires like crazy from a stop. Don't even need to power brake it. You should also notice a difference in fuel mileage if you can keep your foot off the floor ;-) Have fun!

I found that mine ran fine on 89 octane when it was set for the 91 octane program but it would ping if I put 87 octane in.

What kind of stuff can you do with this chip. Will it hurt my engine. How do I install it?

Mine runs great on the 91 setting with 87 gas, no pinging. Most of the time put in 89 though.

dave, did you do the crank sensor mod before you installed the tuner? I wonder if I would have to put the crank sensor back to the factory location or will it be alright. I am assuming the tuner moves the timing up a bit more and it may be too much with the crank sensor mod. Any thoughts? Anyone?

Try it and find out... if it pings, switch it to a different program until you can get the sensor moved back (or if you haven't yet...switch to cooler plugs...if that still don't help, switch to a cooler thermo). I've heard with a 180*F tstat and cooler plugs, most don't have any issues with pinging. Not sure if there's any issues if they DON'T have them and run that program...but it won't hurt to try and find out unless you keep driving it with the pinging.

i never did the cps mod to my truck, so i do not know if it will affect anything. i think that gunner did the cps mod before he got his tuner.

my truck is so heavy, it is still hard to get the tires to spin. but when it rains, it is a totally different story. i made a left hand turn the other day in the rain at a red light and punched it halfway throught the turn. the tires lit up and it shifted to second gear and was still spinning.

No, I didn't do the CPS mod before I got the tuner. I had thought about it, but it seemed like too much work.
Dave-
Are you running on the Performance setting or 87 octane setting? I thought there was a pretty big difference between the two. Still haven't tried the Towing mode yet. What kind of MPG difference is there for your truck?

i am running the performance setting with 93 octane gas. it made a big difference, but i still cant get the tires to spin that well. but my quad cab is very heavy for a 3.9l. so far, i havent noticed a difference in mileage. when i first got the truck, my mileage was around 17mpg. i checked it last friday and i was getting 15.5 and i was taking it extremely easy on it and i just installed my tonneau cover the weekend before last. i would think with all that i have done to it, i should be getting better mileage and not worse. i have around 76k on my truck, so i decided that it was time to replace the pre cat O2 sensor this past sunday. i will see if that made any difference in mileage.

Speaking about mileage, I got 24 mpg with the V6 TB and then switched over to the V8 TB and got exactly the same. I have 3:55 gears. Didn't see any benifit other that better power up top with the V8 TB. I am still thinking that a 46 mm TB would be just about right for the 3.9. Have you ever bored a stock V6 to 46 mm, dave? Maybe that way I wouldn't lose so much bottom end torque. Any thoughts?

maybe he's talking about freeway mileage at around 2300
rpms... the ENTIRE time

I averaged 18.6 mpg my last tank and i drove about a third of
the tank strictly freeway miles at around 2500-2800 rpms...

how does that sound?

i have never bored a tb to 46mm because everyone that i have bored one for wanted a 48mm. i do think that that would work for keeping some bottom end. it is also easier to bore to 46mm than 48mm because for a 48mm, i have to press out the bearings for the shaft and make aluminmu spacers to push the bearings out so that i will not bore into the bearings.

24 mpg is combined city and highway. I drove to a larger centre 100 miles away, then drove through the city to my appointment, then back out and 100 miles back home. Lots of stop and go, red lights, etc. On the way home, there was a pretty good headwind and the truck was bucking it pretty good. On the way there I had a cross wind and it was not too bad. If I go on a long trip to another province I can get 28 mpg strictly highway driving. The truck has been like that since about 5000 km from new. I have a snap up tonneau cover and nothing special for mods other than a drop-in Accel Cool blue filter, relocated IAC, and did the cps mod. That was also with the stock muffler etc. I drove at around 65 mph and passed a few slowpokes there and back. I dunno, can't explain it.
Hey dave, how much to do the 46 mm bore job?
