You will get a check engine light if you instal a different computer. I tried that with my 2000 and I even got a computer that was from a 2000 with all the same options as mine and it set a check engine light. Check it out before you purchase it.

Blue340 - you may see a check engine light, but can't say that you will for sure. I ran my '00 on a boneyard PCM (same year) with no light or problems while I was getting my PCM custom flashed.

The 98 Dakota and up have 2 on board computers. The PCM under the hood and a second one in the dash. The 97 Dakota only has the 1 PCM under the hood. So if you are going to swap out your 97 PCM for a 98 PCM, make sure you get both computers. They both have the vehicle VIN in them and they use that to match up with each other.

A computer will probably not solve your poblem they are not electronically controled they are hydralic if I am corrrect

It will work but you need to get the vin and miliage flzshed in by chrysler
Usualy a $50 to $75 charge to do this
