Subject: So the belt went out

So this morning I started my way to go pick up some roses for my g/f just to do it, well i start going and bout 30 seconds after I crank up the truck i hear this really loud whine. Turns out my serpentine belt is going bad. So now I gotta pay $35 for a new one. I guess 42,000 miles is good for the stock one right. How many miles has yalls lasted, stock or unstock. I'm goin with Daco btw.

I get mine at Napa (something stupid about factory a/c vs dealer a/c.. I need a belt that is 1/2" longer than ones you get from advance/autozone. I used Gatorback (i think) which is made by goodyear in my wife's old mustang.

I have had to replace my belt twice due to cracking. I have only 77k on my Dak. But have had to replace the tensioner pully after only 50k. The after market pullys are better than OEM. Make sure you inspect your tensioner pully.

mine was $20 and 10 minutes install
saved old one for backup

it's your life line... after breaking your battery will fire/run the truck for roughly 20+- minutes in day night time 10 minutes with head lights on

if you get stranded and want to limp home or to garage loosen the radiator cap will lower pressure also run the heater will lower the temp
run blower max speed ...cut your chances of of meltdown/lockup

any cracks or frays replace it ASAP will save you TIME BIG TIME and life of truck... waiting for help

I've replaced mine about 4 times already and I just got to 90k. I usually get the squeaking and can't stand it so I change the belt. I use the gatorback belt as well. I had a tensioner pully go bad early on which was replaced under warranty (the dealer was nice enough to put on a new belt) and then replaced a water pump last summer so that explains 2 of them.
