I felt a slight hesitation in my 2000 dakota 3.9 (60k miles) at highway speeds when shifting to over drive, I topped up my tranny fluid. Soon after I couldn'teven drive the truck it was sputtering and hesitating.I wasn't sure if the problems were related, this seemed like a feul problem so I used some octane booster because I had just filled up,thought I picked up a little water, after about 5 min it can out of it, worked great, fifteen min after that we are back to sputtering. It seems to come and go, but when it goes i loose almost all power, could it be a sensor or something, help, please,,,,,,

crankshaft position sensor. sounds like an intermittent loss of signal. go to autozone and get them to do the free diagnostic on it.

GET IN, SIT DOWN, SHUTUP, AND HOLD ON

I just went thru what sounds to be the same thing with my 2000 Dakota. It has 62k on it. Turn your ignition on, off, on, off and on again. You will probably get a P1391 code on your odometer. Once I had a new crankshaft postion sensor installed it still ran a little rough but after awhile it ran great. Good Luck.

Try this:

Fuel injector flush
tune up
spark plugs
wires
cap
rotor
have carbon cleaned from the motor
change fuel filter

I reciantly had a 60k tune up done on my truck at work and it runs like new.
