Message: my dodge dakota v-6 has the maintence required light on. I have checked the fluids & my guess is the egr valve or related parts are in question as this same thing happened about a year ago. the egr valve was replaced & the shop turned off the light. now its back again. can you recommend a tester or code reader tool for turning off the light? my inspection is due next month.

Message: "autozone" may be able to help. they will read codes and reset the computer for free.

Message: The 'maintainance required' light and the 'check engine' light on the 92's are two different things. I was told by a Dodge tech (course, that may mean squat, take it with a grain of salt) that the maintainance required light is more to get you into the dealer to check stuff like the cat and EGR valve, and it turns on at set intervals. The dealer supposedly is about the only one that can turn it off. What worked for me was yanking the bulb out of that light fixture.

Message: if you could find an FSM for your year it would probably have info to turn off that light.
i don't think A/Z can read OBDI codes and the ones around here will read OBDII (96-up) but they will NOT reset them.
