Message: Hey guys it's starting to get cold here. I have a 2002 Dakota. The other day I just realized that the heat isn't working. Actually my 6 year old son brought the problem to my attention. I get heat and I can warm the truck but the problem is the only place it will blow out is through the defrost. If I change the knob to the other settings like, feet or anywhere else it still only comes out the defrost. Does that sound like it is a problem with the control and if so do you think a 6 year old could fix it?

Message: I am having the same heat problems. No heat and even my temp gauge is hardly raising about 130 degrees. Heater core probs and thurmostat probs?

Message: I don't think so because my gauge goes up and the heat coming out is hot. In fact I have to turn it down after awhile. I just can't get it to shift between the defrost on top and the floor.

Message: If your engine coolant temp isn't getting hot enough your thermostat is stuck open. So naturally the fluid going to the heater core isn't hot enough to heat the cab.

Message: Sounds like a vacuum leak to your HVAC controller. Most will default to the defrost position if unhooked from the engine vacuum source. This kind of makes sense from a safety standpoint. I would look for a vacuum hose disconected from the manifold.
