Hi,
I have a 92 Dak 3.9 Ext Cab. 111K, First the truck started to backfire when in low rpm's. Then, a few weeks later, it would run good for 3-4 minutes (or 3 to 4 miles) and then die. After the engine was cool again, I could start it and it would run. Sometimes however it wouldn't even start.

So I changed: plugs, distributor, fuel filer; I even took out the tank just to clean it (but it was clean). Now I got everything back in the truck - but it won't start. The starter works fine, the fuses are al right.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks.

See my long post on backfire while accelerating.

Could be several things. Have you checked the fuel pressure? Coil? various sensors (tps, map) egr?

Yep, what he said, if if won't start now, start with the simple things first: Fuel pressure and spark from the coil to the dist or lack thereof. Get back to us with what you find.

If it ain't broke, fix it til it is.

Could also be slack in timing chain.

But first, before all that, you should have checked fault codes first:

alot the fault code lines. Does the check engine light ever come on and go off?

According to the guys at the shop I use, the older (pre OBDII) vehicles do not store all fault codes that are generated. Some are lost when you turn the engine off so if you do the key sequence to get the codes, you won't get all that were thrown.
