Bought my 98' 3.9 back in April, so I haven't tried the heat until now. I takes forever for the air to blow even slightly warm (1/2 hour or more!) Besides the obvious "heater core plugged", and "is there coolant in the system" are there valves to open the coolant flow to the heater core that often fail? What elese should I look for?

Oh, I should add that I replaced the water pump, bypass hose, thermostat (stock temp), and both upper and lower rad hoses last summer. I flushed the system before refilling it as well.

I suggest BACKflushing.
I had flush and cleaned mine. Then I read on here about all the gunk you can only get out by backflushing. And I did get alot of gunk.
Get a Prestone flush kit. You can drain about 2 gallons from the radiator and reuse it. I filtered mine through on old towel.

Thanks. I'll try backflushing. I think I even have a power flush setup (shop air and water) I think I'll try.

Let's hope flushing did the trick. I actually had to backflush it and the fluch it the normal direction 4 times to finally get the clog blown out. Very little water would flow before and I can tell it's cleaned out now.

Praise to the Dodge engineer who put the coupler on the return heater hose! It would have been a royal pain to get the hose off of the intake.

When you backflush, are you using air or water?

Hey fseventy,

Tell me about this return heater house coupler. Where is it? At the fire wall or on the water pump side? Did you use a water hose or air?
