Subject: O2 Socket Wrenches IP: Logged
Message: I have searched the net for a socket to take
out my 02 sensor with. ANd often the seller doesn't state what size it is. Just that it is a 'O2 socket.' They keep mention that they will fit about '90%' of all vehicles. Well, is the 1989 Dakota one of the other 10%? I doubt it, but don't want to spend for the wrong part. Any body have any special tips on buying a 02 socket.? Probably not. *laughs* Anyways, i'll keep trying.

Message: Stop by a local parts store and check. I know advance/autozone/napa here stock them. Before you buy it, ask them to check it against the O2 sensor your truck uses. The reason I say this is because I bought an oil sending unit socket from advance and it said it fit chrysler vehicles but it did not fit mine! The socket was not deep enough. I went to napa and they had one in stock that was actually a little cheaper and did fit.
I have a 1995 and was able to get my single O2 sensor out using an open-end wrench, no need for the special socket.

Message: The socket fits all Chrysler products. Autozone sells or rents it for $15 (deposit returned when socket returned).

Message: Cool. Thanks for the replies. I ended up
ordering a flex head wrench at 22mm. That
should do the trick.

Message: Maybe I am the only one that uses the Kentucky Socket Set (adjustable wrench.) It is much easier to find the right size and your not going to strip that big of a nut.

Message: I used a bigass pipewrench when I did my O2 sensor on a Chevy S-10 and it came right off. No problems at all. The threads were coated with antiseize. Havent had to do the Dodge yet. But save yer $$$ and dont buy the O2 sensor.

Message: The O2 socket is free to use. You can pay the $15 and get it back by returning it. It's a loaner program.
