Message: I spent an hour reading the posts related to output shaft speed sensors without finding a solution to my problem.
These are the facts.
1. 1998 Dodge Dakota, 3.9L, 4WD, rear ABS
2. Check engine light goes on and I read DTC P0720, output shaft speed is less than 60 rpm with vehicle speed above 15 mph.
3. The factory manual tells me that I have 3 wheel speed sensors:the rear speed sensor located on the differential housing and one each located on the steering knuckles off the front wheels.
3. I change the rear speed sensor with a dealer replacement part.
4. I erase the DTC, start the engine drive off and bingo the check engine light comes on.
5. I read the DTC. Guess what? P0720.
Does this mean I have to change out the remaning sensors or is there some other cause for this DTC?

Message: if you have rear ABS you won't have speed sensors on the front wheels.
if your speedo is working properly it is probably the speed sensor on the tail of the tranny. you will loose a little fluid when you pull it out.

Message: Thanks for the information daddio. I went through the transmission section of the factory service manual and found the location of transmission speed sensor. It said that the rear speed sensor I replaced acts as a backup for transmission speed sensor. So, I will replace this sensor.
