Ok, here's my problem. I've got a '97 cc 4X4 with roughly 55K in it. The truck started about a week ago to shake, and i could feel the vibrations in the steering wheel. This happened in reverse and going up hills. Now it does it all the time except when maintaining high speeds, 55-60. I took it to the dealer, they ran a diagnostic, came up and said it was the T-stat gasket had a leak in it, the spark plugs were shot along with the wires and i needed a new cap distributor. Okay i said. Went home got the parts, put them on, and NOTHING CHANGED. I have no idea what the problem is. The spark plugs were shot and so was the T-stat but the cap and wires were just fine. The guy at the dealership said i would need to replace all the transmission fluid which would cost me around $500. I said no way, since i have never had to do that before.

Do you guys have any idea what is wrong?
Can you please help me before i go and break down the doors to the dealership?

Please give me some ideas as to what it could or most likely is.

Sorry about the long post, but i consider my truck like a kid. I just gotta give it the best and can't stand it being sick.

Thanks again guys.

Hey Cal,
there is now way that it should cost you $500 to change your tranny fluid. I take mine to those purfect auto care places to do that and they only charge me about $45. As far as your problem with the shaking...I am lost bud.

$500 for a transmission flush? i paid $137 for mine and have 80k miles on my truck. and dont take you truck to the dealership they charge twice as much for something you can get done at a regular shop. if u beleive it is te tranny the take it to a TRANSMISSION SHOP they will be able to tell you and will charge alot less than $500 for a tranny flush.

and i treat my truck like a kid too, cant stand it to be dirty or sick.

a cal dak does it shake when you are on the brakes, does it shake when only at low speeds, when it shakes you said the steering has bad vibes also. the dealer sounds like they are selling snake oil. The only way it might shake that bad with a tranny problem is maybe if you had a bad mount, maybe. what condition are your tires, shocks, steering damper in?

I had the same problem not to long ago. It turned out my tires were out of balance because the weights wouldn't stay on my wheel. I had them static balanced, and the vibration went away. Could it be something that simple?

I hope so. It doesn't shake when i hit the brakes, but it does shake hardest at low speeds. I had the dealership replace something like the middle steering rod, under warranty. I also had the oil changed a week ago. Still no improvement. thanks for the suggestions guys.

Nope. I will check up on the balancing. It could be the wheels. Thanks again for the help.
