Subject: 180 t-stat? IP: Logged
Message: if swapping a stock thermostat for a 180* t-stat on a '03 3.9 dak, will it set a code? seeing that the computer will not see the engine operating at normal temp.

Message: It shouldn't...however, just as a forewarning, you may notice a small drop in gas mileage. If you live in a colder climate, it MAY trip a code...I live in Ohio (our winters aren't super harsh, but it does get pretty damn cold here) and have yet to have any issues with it setting off any codes for being too cool for too long.

Message: I put in a 180 T-stat this summer on a 1995 and in November on long trips got a code that says running engine cold too long. Never got any codes before now.

Message: Has the outside temperature been really cold lately? Also could be the thermostat opening too early and running colder than it should. Something I think Larry used to do as well to help prevent getting that code without having to switch the thermo back to the 195*F is block part of the radiator with cardboard on really cold days...but keep an eye on your temp gauge. You don't want it overheating either. lol
